Year after year, I get “Wake Me Up When September Ends” stuck in my head on 25th August. It was my mother’s birthday, so that day has got connotations, y’know.
Funny thing is, I always get it back out of my head again before August is through, and one day in September I open my eyes and we’re in the middle of September, then I blink again and it’s October.
Year after year.
This isn’t funny any more, Father Time! Wake me up at the START of September, I’ve got too much to do to snooze through a whole month!!
I guess it’s the bipolar, but I always seem to have a bit of a downer until mid to late September. Then, things pick up again as soon as I get some snow/ice, and then I get SO VERY HYPER for ICE SKATING. Does anyone else find that?
So this year I’m running around like a blue-arsed fly trying to get everything ready for going back to university for the first time in years. I’ve got to finalize my funding arrangements, get some new trousers, then there’s books, papers, pens and new glasses to buy (mine are so cloudy, but, whilst writing this article, I just ordered a new pair for £9 … yes, that was £9 for prescription eyeglasses from Lensway, and that’s not an affiliate link; I strongly believe everyone deserves affordable glasses).
Once all the “back to school” type shopping’s over, I’ve also got to get my US Dollar bank account working so I can continue getting paid and maybe not lose 1/3 of my income to “currency exchange fees,” amongst other made-up charges that amount to the bank/PayPal robbing me every month.
After that, I need to properly write out my research proposal so I can get started on the literature review, because I picked a doozy of a project and it’s going to need all the allocated time for doing the actual research not pussyfooting around in the library (jk, I actually LOVE spending 12-16 hours in a library each day; on my first degree, the library was like my second home, but I do need to conduct the actual scientific study this time as well). I will need some sort of journal subscription login to get working on that too, because wouldn’t you know that everything’s online these days and I don’t have $35 per article when I’m going to need around 150 articles to reference. That’s a lot of money!
So if I’m quiet on here for a bit, that’s why, because I’m also still writing/rewriting my fiction books at the same time, so I seriously do not have much time at the moment.
But y’know, if you want something doing, give it to a busy person (or a lazy one, according to Bill Gates, because they’ll find the shortcuts).
In case you didn’t get the title reference, here’s some Green Day:
